Bearing the Image: Walking in the Power of Christ (Part 2)

Introduction

We opened in prayer and thanksgiving — grateful for divine protection, for healing, and for the evidence of God’s power at work within our midst. We declared together that this is a month of dominion, and we said it with intention, not as a slogan but as a faith position rooted in Scripture. As Genesis 1:26 reminds us, we were made in God’s image and given a mandate to have dominion over the earth — but sin corrupted that image, and with it, something of that authority was lost. The good news is that what was lost in Adam is restored in Christ, and we are being called to walk in that restoration actively and boldly. We are also more aware than ever that spiritual warfare is real. Psalm 35:19 speaks of enemies who hate without cause, and we recognise that pattern — the enemy does not always need a reason to oppose us; sometimes we are targeted simply because of what we carry. But we are not defenceless. Accepting God’s calling, as we were encouraged to do, opens us to a covering that goes beyond human protection. Just as we saw in the lives of those who dared to say yes to God’s purposes, there is a special grace and guardianship that accompanies those who embrace their divine assignment rather than shrink from it.

We were also drawn deeply into Solomon’s prayer in 1 Kings 3:9, where rather than asking for wealth or long life, he asked for wisdom — and it pleased God so profoundly that everything else was added alongside it. There is something in that exchange that challenges us. How often do we come to God leading with our needs and wants, when the request that unlocks everything else is simply the humility to ask for wisdom? We are being shaped to make that our primary pursuit. We also spent time in Colossians 1:9-10, unpacking the concept of epignosis — a deep, accurate, and experiential knowledge of God that goes far beyond surface familiarity. It is this kind of knowing that enables us to walk worthy of Him, bear fruit in every good work, and exercise genuine dominion. And we were challenged to move beyond declarations alone — to also consecrate our land, speak life over it, and trust in the reconciling power of Christ’s blood to restore what sin and neglect have affected. Colossians 1:20 tells us that through Christ, God reconciled all things to Himself, and we believe that includes the ground beneath our feet and the spaces we have been entrusted with.

Takeaways

We walk away stirred and re-commissioned — understanding that dominion is not a passive inheritance but an active responsibility. We are being called to stand firm against spiritual opposition, to refuse the erosion that sin and compromise bring, and to reclaim what belongs to us by faith and by the authority given to us in Christ. Ephesians 6:13 calls us to put on the full armour of God so that when the day of evil comes, we may stand our ground — and we take that seriously. We are not victims of our circumstances; we are inheritors of a kingdom, and we choose to live accordingly. We also leave with a renewed hunger for epignosis — not just knowing about God but knowing Him deeply, accurately, and personally — because it is that quality of knowing that transforms us from the inside and equips us to be genuinely fruitful rather than just busy.

We also carry away a conviction about wisdom that we do not want to lose. Solomon’s request was simple and it was selfless, and God honoured it extravagantly. We are choosing to make wisdom our primary ask — wisdom for our families, our decisions, our callings, and our relationships — trusting that as Matthew 6:33 promises, when we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all the other things we need will be added. We trust in the protection that comes with embracing our calling, we trust in the power of Christ’s blood to restore and reconcile, and we commit to speaking life rather than defeat over everything God has placed in our hands. This month of dominion is not just a declaration — it is a decision, and we have made it.
