When believers come together in unity, their collective faith amplifies God’s power, making it easier to receive guidance, breakthrough, and divine intervention. Unlike knowledge, which can be taught, the Spirit must be caught through faith, obedience, and immersion in environments where God’s power is actively moving. The message emphasises that believers grow spiritually not just by learning about God, but by positioning themselves where His presence can flow, allowing the Spirit to activate, empower, and equip them for service and breakthrough.
Why is Being Around Important to Catch the Anointing or Spirit?
Being around others in the Spirit is essential for “catching” the anointing because spiritual power flows most effectively in an atmosphere of faith, prayer, and God’s presence. Just as physical heat warms those nearby, the anointing and grace are transferred through proximity to people who operate in the Spirit.
If a believer remains distant or isolated, they miss out on the spiritual flow, breakthroughs, and empowerment that God releases in corporate settings. Motivation vs. the Spirit
Motivation and the Spirit are fundamentally different in their source and effect. Motivation is temporal, often driven by circumstances, excitement, or personal goals, and it can fade quickly, leaving people tired, discouraged, or prone to retreat. In contrast, the Holy Spirit sustains a believer consistently, providing strength, guidance, and empowerment over the long term.
It is the Spirit, not fleeting feelings or human ambition, that enables individuals to operate effectively in ministry and life, endure trials, and continue faithfully in service to God. The message emphasises that relying on the Spirit, rather than mere motivation, ensures longevity, stability, and fruitfulness in spiritual endeavours.
Elijah and Elisha – The Importance of Proximity
The story of Elijah and Elisha in 2 Kings 2:1–15 to illustrate the importance of being close to receive the Spirit. Elisha remained near Elijah, learning, serving, and positioning himself in the right spiritual atmosphere. Because of his faithful proximity, he “caught a double portion” of Elijah’s spirit, receiving empowerment and anointing for ministry.
Meanwhile, others who observed from a distance did not receive the same blessing, highlighting that spiritual favour and empowerment often flow to those who actively place themselves in environments of faith, prayer, and divine presence. The message teaches that believers today must be intentional about where they position themselves, who they associate with spiritually, and the environments they cultivate to maximise reception of God’s power and grace.
Advice for Operating Effectively in Ministry
Believers who desire to operate effectively in ministry must cultivate a life of consistency and faithfulness. This includes persistent prayer, fasting, and regular participation in church and prayer meetings, positioning themselves in environments where the Spirit moves. Believers are encouraged to catch the Spirit by being around those who operate in the Spirit, learning, serving, and staying close to sources of spiritual anointing.
Equally important is maintaining the right heart and motives, serving out of love and obedience to God rather than personal ambition. The message underscores that effective ministry is not based on talent alone but on a combination of spiritual preparation, faithfulness, and alignment with God’s will, ensuring empowerment, breakthrough, and lasting impact.
